Opus N°2 Taureau

This first animal work completed in 1962, illustrates the intention of the artist to show, not a movement in time, but the movement suspended between what is just past and the immediate future. This beast has just scratched the ground with his left front hoof, his head is down ready to charge his invisible adversary and one can imagine the breath coming out of his nostrils! His muscles are tense and his flanks are indented with effort. Lower legs, hooves and the movement of the tail are more detailed in order to evoke power and the disturbance of the ground. The patina is black with some brown transparency.
